Happy 100th Birthday Grandma Lois Stokes-Peck!

Lois was really excited to see her birthday cake with 100 candles. She has been asking if it's her birthday every day for at least a month. 

It didn't take long for these two pyros to light the 100 candles. They've also been waiting anxiously for this moment.

Yea! Grandma! You made it! You're 100 years old today!

Okay, Make a Wish!

Everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to Lois, Mom, Grandma etc...

Lois is making a wish and blowing out the candle on her piece of cake.

Since regular birthday candles don't last long enough to light all 100 of them, we made the candles for her cake. These are pictures of us making the candles and adding sugar paste roses to the bottom of them.
We repeatedly dipped pieces of string into melted wax until the candles were big enough.

Lois was delighted with the hundred candles.

It took quite a few days to shape gum paste roses onto the bottom of each candle.







We baked two cakes, one chocolate and one spice. They were placed side by side and iced as one. Here are the one hundred candles on the finished cake.

A Graduation Birthday Party

Jimmy graduated from the Culinary Arts Trade at Job Corp on the day before his birthday. Here are some pictures from both celebrations.

One Hundred Birthday Candles

We had a candle making party for my son Jimmy's 20th birthday party. We made all 100 candles for my mother-in-law's 100th birthday party which will be at the end of this month.















Lois was really happy to see all 100 of her candles.

She is so excited about finally turning one hundred years old!

Rather than dip one hundred candles separately, we bent 10 coat hangers to form coil-shaped holders. For the candle wicks, we tied ten 8 inch lengths of thin cotton string to each hanger.

Each group of ten wicks was dipped quickly into a number ten can of melted wax and then hung up to dry.

Large pieces of cardboard were used to catch the inevitable drips.

After the first coat of wax cooled, the wicks were dipped quickly into the wax again. Eventually, there were enough layers of wax and the birthday candles were done.
